After you submit your paperwork, we will start processing your retirement application. You will receive a letter that confirms your retirement application is valid or a letter informing you that your application is missing.
Benefit Payment
You will receive your first benefit payment approximately three weeks after your benefit effective date. Your payment could take longer to process if:
Your valid application and required documents are received less than 60 days before your benefit effective date
Your benefit effective date is in the past
You applied for benefits with another Minnesota public pension
PERA will send you a first payment letter after your first payment is processed. Your benefit payment will be finalized after we receive final salary information from your employer. Your benefits could be adjusted based on any additional salary information that we receive. If the final benefit differs from your first few payments, adjustments will be made retroactively and we will send an updated letter.
