Life Insurance

If your employer offers it, you may be eligible as an active PERA member to purchase the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement System (NCPERS) Voluntary Life Insurance Plan. NCPERS is a decreasing term life insurance program.

You must be an active PERA member when you sign up for the program. Coverage may continue into retirement, but you must be enrolled in NCPERS as an active member.

If coverage continues after you retire, any deductions will be taken from your monthly benefit.

PERA does not administer the life insurance policy. For all questions, please contact Member Benefits at 1-800-525-8056, or email at ncpers@memberbenefits.com.

Retiree Union Dues

PERA deducts union membership dues from a benefit recipient who is a member of an organization representing retired public employees.

These organizations are independent of PERA, and membership is elective. PERA neither endorses nor opposes these organizations.

Members must contact the retiree organization directly to cancel union membership, stop dues deductions, request a refund of past dues, or for any other membership questions.

By statute, PERA is required to provide mailing address information so that the organizations can inform retirees of the opportunity to join their organization. Member contact information is considered private data and is not provided directly to organizations but sent to a third-party mailing house who destroys the information after the mailing is complete.
