New Retirement Plan for Probation Officers and Telecommunicators

Starting January 1, 2027, PERA will administer the Local Government Probation & Telecommunicator Plan for local government probation officers and public safety telecommunicators.
If you are eligible, PERA will transfer you and your service to the new plan.
In the Local Government Probation & Telecommunicator Plan,
- Full retirement age is 60. Early retirement age is 55.
- Members are vested after three years of service. Previous service with any Minnesota public pension plan is used for vesting.
- Members contribute 8% until August 31, 2028. Starting September 1, 2028, members will contribute 8.82%.
- Employers contribute 7.5%.
- Post-retirement increases are 100% of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), between 1–1.75%.
