Executive Director Transition
At the August 13, 2026, meeting, the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) Board of Trustees unanimously selected Amy Strenge to serve as PERA’s next Executive Director. The Board reached its decision after a nine-month nationwide search, following the announcement last December that PERA’s current Executive Director, Doug Anderson, intended to retire in 2026.
Ms. Strenge comes to this role with over a decade of experience in public pension administration and legislative policy. Ms. Strenge has served as PERA’s Policy Coordinator for the past 7 years, where she has played a key leadership role helping develop legislative strategy and enterprise-wide implementation of legislative initiatives. Before coming to PERA, she spent 5 years as the primary pension resource for a Minnesota Senate caucus. Ms. Strenge holds a Bachelor of Arts from Augustana University in Government and International Affairs, History, and Religion, graduating magna cum laude, and has completed leadership development programs including the Emerging Leaders Institute and the Humphrey Policy Fellows program.
The Board has the utmost confidence in Ms. Strenge’s vision of a modernized pension fund that is empowered to deliver seamless service and true partnership to every member and employer. To begin to implement that vision, the Board has appointed Ms. Strenge as PERA’s Deputy Executive Director where she will serve alongside Director Anderson during a three-month leadership transition.
The Board is extremely grateful for the leadership and service of Director Doug Anderson. Over the past eleven years, he has made invaluable contributions and helped grow PERA into the exceptional organization it is today. When Director Anderson retires in November, he can do so knowing that he made a tremendous difference for the organization and its members, and that PERA will be in good hands. The Board is confident in the future of PERA under Director Strenge and look forward to her working with her to continue to meet the needs of all stakeholders.
